4800 Beatdown at Area BFE

We knew from the beginning that this race was going to be too risky to run Hunter as co-driver. We figured the rate of attrition would be high, and the chances of not making it back in time to start 4400 were too great. Steve stepped in to help me co-drive so Hunter could be back in pits, and worst-case scenario, I didn’t make it back, he could still start his race. This was the first time anyone other than Hunter had driven with me and it was a really good opportunity to try a new set up. Our race was going good, and my plan to stay close to the car in front of me was working until I slid off a bad line. I landed hard on my belly pan and was stuck. Steve pulled winch and at that point we started getting passed and I knew our race was over. I decided to keep moving and get as many laps in as possible but while we were hung up I felt like something was off with my front end. We pulled into pits to get checked and were sent on our way with the only issuediscovered was that my drive shaft was now hitting my oil pan when the front end flexed. I was risking losing oil out of a hole in the side of my pan, but otherwise could continue. We pulled out of pits and were able to make another lap. On the joker line of Brittany, we found out that my ARB had actually failed. The feeling I had in the front end was my ARB disengaging not a broken shaft like I originally thought. We had to winch again to get around the rock up top but we were able to make it relatively quickly. Another car passed us at the bottom and at that point I knew we were now too far back to finish well. I contemplated saving what was left of the car and calling the race but with some encouragement from pits we continued on to our final lap. The last lap was uneventful and we were able to make it back in for a checkered flag and an 11th place finish. I am so happy with my Yokohama tires, not one flat! This course was very technical but very drivable and the only time we got stuck were my mistakes and poor planning. Can’t wait to get wasabi cleaned up and start prep for KOH!
